Behind creation

Yuko perceives the world, whether a single object or an event, to be made of layers of simple or fundamental elements. However the combination of these components or sequence of events creates a complicated, unique, unexpected world and this leads to a different experience.

Her pathway to cultivating this perception wound through different cultures, the observation of nature, her appreciation for literature and her experience as an illustrator. A great influence was that of her mother’s creative work with bouquet flowers.

Her process of jewellery creation is like putting the right words together in the writing of a poem. Her words are extracted elements such as shape, colour, and texture in nature, especially the exploration of the botanical form. She articulates new images, emotions and stories in metaphorical sculptural form so that the viewer/wearer can engage the work with their own interpretation.
